Anyway, if anyone else has any tips or pointers they have found to remedy this issue please post! The problem which i found out was that the display adapter had to be updated. Specifically the Intel HD Graphics. I have my "closing the lid" set to do nothing, then with my laptop on and logged in I closed the lid, waiting a few seconds and opened it.

This time when the screen got stuck on full brightness I went into the power settings and set the "choose what the lid does " setting to do nothing , clicked When the brightness fails click the "do nothing" profile, close the lid, open the lid, then change the profile back to the "hibernate profile". Simply closing-opening the lid seems to bring back the screen brightness controls in the cases I experienced so far! The issue occurs for me when I have the lid setting to "Do Nothing" and close the lid. Diede On Surface 3: After trying everything on this page nothing changed. Regards.
It starts after some updates I think, may be few months ago. The bug is not reproducible consistently. You have 32-bit Windows 7, correct?As much as I despise HP customer support, it looks like you should contact them to see what happened as it shouldn't have stopped working. I never liked macs but now I do get the point after buying this Vaio...
P.S. But if you set the sleep/hibernate action for the powerbutton, the brightness works fine on resume. I have search many sites but no one has a fix yet. Click START, right click on COMPUTER, and select MANAGE.

I experience the same issues mentioned above pertaining to the brightness controls locking up after closing the lid when it is set to "sleep" after closing the the lid.
the second attempt will not let you change the brightness... Windows will then install the selected driver and the world shall return to normality. if you have win 7 it should install the updated grappics driver automaticly.. Pressing Fn + F7, then selecting 'Computer Only', works well on my Sony Vaio with Win7.
