That doesn't mean you're out of options. The DVDs have all had their region protection removed, and are stored as files (i.e. \VIDEO_TS\video_ts.ifo, \VIDEO_TS\*.vob, etc..). I can get movies to play from the Movies folder. MyMovies is great for WHS and movie collection. Hooked it up to the TV using HDMI and optical audio, then into the network. Videos on the XP MCE let me do this perfectly - it's fast, pretty enough (thanks to folder.jpg) and follows my organizational structure. Doesn't the xbox inherit (for lack of a better term) all the library settings from the media center? The DVDs are in folders using the same structure as a DVD (i.e. "\\homeserver\somePath\someMovie\VIDEO_TS\video_ts.ifo"), and work perfectly in Windows XP MCE with DVD Gallery turned on. Anyhow, I went back in and set Windows Search/Indexing and anything that has to do with LAN/ROUTING/MEDIA CENTER/ETC to an Automatic setting. +Anything that was Disabled I changed to Manual, so
Organizing movies and TV shows into separate folders helped a lot too. BUT… I have one nagging problem, that I cannot solve. You're in the wrong spot on Media Center. This method requires a bit more work up front, but has a potential for less problems when you're actually trying to watch your videos.
You can tweak a few settings in XBMC to make it more friendly to non-geeks right out of the box, though a new skin can also be helpful.
