In order for you to really preview what your print would look like, you'd have to set the brightness of your screen down considerably. While I still get those sometimes, I think the industry as a whole has become more educated about using printer profiles and monitor calibration. I LOVE IT! Also, the brightness of a print depends on paper type (glossy, matt, satin-matt, etc), paper quality and the printer's inks.
What I've been doing for calibration is resetting the monitor to the default settings and then reducing the brightness to 60% (much better on the eyes) and then recalibrating the monitor.
